1. Egyptian chief justice Adli Mansour was sworn in Thursday as the country's interim president, hours after the army ousted incumbent Mohammed Morsi and put him under house arrest.


2. The Reserve of Bank of India (RBI) today said that not all eligible applicants may necessarily get licence to start a Bank. After attending RBI’s Board meeting in Chennai today, D Subbarao, governor, RBI said, “We (RBI) do not want to ourself locked with any specific numbers, in terms of giving license.


3. Vandana Gandhi became the first ever Indian woman to receive Dubai Government's coveted Emirates Woman Award for business excellence in June 2013.


4. Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Surakhsa Yojna, MGPSY ,a pension scheme for blue-collar Indian workers would be launched in the Gulf next month.This was announced by the Secretary, ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs at a press conference in Riyadh yesterday. The MGPSY is aimed at helping the workers to save money for their retirement, their return to India and resettlement and provides life insurance cover against natural death during the period of coverage.


5. Shriniwas Patil, former NCP MP and a close associate of party chief Sharad Pawar, has been appointed the new governor of Sikkim.


6. The 3rd edition of India International leather fair began today in New Delhi. Around 182 producers from 8 countries including India are participating in the event.


7. Doug Engelbart, the inventor of the computer mouse and developer of early incarnations of email, word processing programmes and the Internet, has died at the age of 88.


8. German luxury car maker Mercedes Benz, which on Thursday launched luxury executive sedan E-Class, said if the rupee continues to remain at current level for long, it may be forced to pass on cost-pressure to consumers to protect margins.


9. Himachal Pradesh was declared as the first Smoke-free state of the country yesterday. The declaration was made in compliance to Section 4 of the Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003.


10. Yahoo has acquired Qwiki, the start-up which launched an iPhone application that allows users to turn photos, music and videos into short movies automatically. This acquisition came shortly after it has acquired blogging service Tumblr and Bignoggins Productions which specialises in fantasy sports apps for iPhones. Yahoo has been acquiring different app companies to get back more internet users from Google and Facebook.
