1. Nasscom, the IT software services industry body appointed R. Chandrasekhar, the former Secretary Department of Telecommunications (DoT), as its president.
2. According UN report India is on track to meet the United Nations' Millennium Development Goal (MDG) of poverty reduction by 2015. According Report: In India, the poverty rate fell from 49 per cent in 1994 to 42 per cent in 2005 and to 33 per cent in 2010. If the current pace continues, India will meet the poverty reduction target by 2015.
3. In defiance of the United States, two Latin American countries - Venezuela and Nicaragua – on Saturday offered asylum to Edward Snowden, leaker of the US secretive surveillance programme.

8. The storm system Erick has strengthened to a hurricane off the Pacific coast of Mexico. The US National Hurricane Center in Miami says Erick became a hurricane on Saturday and is centered about 90 miles (145 kilometers) south of Manzanillo and about 510 miles (820 kilometers) southeast of the southern tip of Baja California. It is moving northwest at 9 mph (15 kph) and has maximum sustained winds of 80 mph (110 kph).
9. BJP’s Madhya Pradesh unit today suspended its senior leader Shiv Shankar Pateria from the primary membership of the party, hours after he claimed he had a role in “exposing” the alleged immoral acts of Ragahvji, who resigned as Finance Minister after the scandal surfaced.
